CDC Considerations for Youth Sports

As some communities in the United States begin to start youth sports activities again, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) offers the following considerations for ways in which youth sports organizations can protect players, families, and communities and slow the spread of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). Administrators of youth sports organizations can consult with state and local health officials to determine if and how to put into place these considerations. Each community may need to make adjustments to meet its unique needs and circumstances. Implementation should be guided by what is practical, acceptable, and tailored to the needs of each community. These considerations are meant to supplement – not replace – any state, local, territorial, or tribal health and safety laws, rules, and regulations with which youth sports organizations must comply.

BBA Organization Guidelines

BBA will follow the individual policies set by facilities, tournaments and best practices set by the CDC.

Any player not willing to adhere to the facility, tournament and BBA COVID-19 guidelines will not be able to participate.

BBA COVID-19 Guidelines:

All players will be required to social distance a minimum of six feet while not directly participating in a drill or scrimmage or game (sideline players).

Cones will be set up at each practice to mark where players should stand while sidelined. Personal backpacks, water bottles etc., will be kept in your 6 feet of space during the entire practice.

  • Coaches will be required to wear masks at all times at both indoor and outdoor practices and games.
  • Parents are highly recommended to wear masks at all times while attending indoor or outdoor practices and at games.
  • Masks will be required to be worn by coaches and players at all times while sidelined during indoor practices and on the bench during tournament games.
  • Masks are not required to be worn at outdoor practices or during games when you are actually playing. Masks can be worn at any time during practice or games if you choose.
  • Players will not be allowed to high five, fist bump, chest bump etc with other players.
  • Players are required to bring a designated indoor ball and outdoor basketball (29.5) to each practice accordingly.
  • Players will only play with their individual ball while doing drills and will be encouraged to not touch basketballs that do not belong to them when possible. This will be explained in detail prior to our first practice.
  • Basketballs should be disinfected prior to each practice.
  • Players should have both indoor and outdoor basketball shoes.
  • Please do not drink from water faucets or use public water fountains to refill water bottles during practice or games.
  • Players should be prepared to bring multiple water bottles to practices and games or purchase drinks from concessions at tournaments.

If at any time during a BBA season a player on an opposing team contracts COVID-19 within one weeks of us playing them, BBA season will be halted immediately for one week.

If a BBA player tests positive for COVID-19, the season will be halted for two weeks.

Per CDC guidelines each coach and player possibly exposed should self isolate for two weeks or until a COVID-19 showing a negative test result is provided.

Players and coaches will be required to provide a negative test result for COVID-19 before they can return to the team.

Every attempt will be made to reschedule or to extend remaining practices canceled due to COVID-19. Players will be allowed to make up practices, in the next season (i.e. practices missed in Summer 2 could be made up in Fall).

Cancellation Policy

Registrations costs for BBA are non-refundable once the season begins.

In the event that the season in cancelled or paused due to COVID-19, every opportunity will be made to reschedule or extend the season.
